Opening of Coastal Highway will reduce gridlock during yuletide – Motorists

Expressing joy over the temporary opening of the completed section of the Lagos- Calabar Coastal Highway to traffic, motorists said the gesture would reduce gridlock on the Lekki- Epe Expressway during the yuletide.
Besides, the motorists said it would cut cost and save travel time of the masses, thanking
President Bola Tinubu for the  temporarily opening of the first section of the  highway for public use.
The 47.74-kilometres stretch, runs from Ahmadu Bello Way on Victoria Island to Eleko Village junction.
The highway, a key legacy project of the current administration, has six lanes, modern street lighting, concrete pavement, and emergency response systems designed to address incidents within five minutes.
Represented by the Minister of Works, Mr David Umahi, President Tinubu reaffirmed his commitment to expanding the country’s critical public infrastructure.
The president said the highway is expected to improve national connectivity, boost trade, and open new economic corridors across the coastal regions.
According to the president, the full inauguration of the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway will be in May 2026.
Also speaking, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by the State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Oluwaseun Osiyemi, said the highway would reduce travel time between Lagos and Calabar from 15 hours to about six or seven hours upon completion.
He commended the Federal Government for delivering the first segment and assured that construction across the six coastal states will meet the highest standards.
Oba Abdul-wasiu Omogbolahan Lawal, Oniru of Iru Land, described the highway as a legacy project under the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda, saying the temporary opening would ease travel during the Yuletide and thanked the President for approving the measure.
Section Two of the Lagos Calabar Coastal Highway from Sagamu to Raya is ongoing and near completion.
